After a massive earthquake of 7.9 magnitude that occurred along a plate boundary in the American Samoa Island area at 6:48 AM local time, there was a tsunami affecting the island. Over 40 people have died and lots of villages have been swept away after tsunami. The death toll is expected to rise as many people are missing.
The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake, which was located about 204 km southwest of Samoa, at 8.0 on the Richter scale after earlier estimating it at 8.3.

In another shocking incident in the United states, another India born techie was killed. Sid Agarwal, the CEO of Siport, an ex-IITian (IIT-Kanpur, 1974, electrical engineering) was shot dead by Jing Hua Wu, recently fired lead product testing engineer of Siport, which is a semiconductor chip company.
Sid Agarwal was a master in building startups and technology companies. Sid earlier held executive management positions at companies like Layer Five Networks, Alliance Semiconductor and Synaptics. He had also worked Adobe, Intel and Bell Labs.
After pssing graduation from from IIT Kanpur, Sid Agarwal received an M.S. from Southern Illinois University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. Jing Hua Wu, who killed Sid Agarwal and his colleagues, had been fired from his job just the day before. By the time the police arrived at the crime scene, Wu had already escaped but the police fnally arrested Wu on early Saturday morning.

The UGC has appointed a Committee to Review the Spay scale of the Teachers in the Universities and Colleges. The Commission (Chadha commission), in consultation with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, has finalized the terms of reference of the Committee
All India Federation of University & College Teachers' Organisations had urged Prof. Chadha Committee to bear in mind the following broad principles while formulating its proposals for the 6th UGC pay scales for university and college teachers:
Parity of teachers with at least Group A Officers of the Central Government in pay scales, allowances and perquisites
Incentive for contribution to teaching and extension on par with research
Resolving the anomalies in the 5th Pay revision ,particularly that relating to the date of implementation
Implementation of new recommended pay scales w.e.f. 1.1.2006
100% Central Assistance for the implementation of the revised pay package for ten years
There should be a Mandatory, uniform and simultaneous implementation of the new package throughout the country

Siter Alphonsa's beatification - that is recognition by the Church of a dead person's accession to heaven - was ordered by the then Pope, Pope John Paul II, when he visited Kerala in the year 1986. In a shocking development Arpana Jinaga, an Indian woman software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, was found dead in the US a few days ago.

Azam has reportedly told the investigating agencies that they wanted to do a JW Marriot on and reduce the Taj Hotel to rubbles.
Azam along with hiscolleague attacked CST/Victoria terminus and then fled towardsto Girgaum Chowpatty in a stolen Skoda. A team of police from Gamdevi station intercepted them. Azam's partner was killed while he was shot on the hand.
